Help by calling on the Welsh Government to increase and secure the budget for climate and nature-friendly farming in Wales, enabling farmers to produce food sustainably while restoring nature and tackling climate change.
To produce food, we need nature. Healthy soils, clean water, a rich diversity of life – nature gives us the very things on which all food production depends. But nature is in decline across Wales, with one in six species at risk of extinction nationally.
84% of Wales is farmed, so putting nature at the heart of the way we produce our food and investing in nature-friendly farming is the best chance we have of seeing our wildlife recover and thrive.
Increased funding is crucial.
The Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS) is due to start in January 2026 and will serve as the primary source of government support for farmers in Wales. It’s vital that Welsh Government gets this new policy framework right and commits enough funding to it to meet the scale of need. This will enable our farmers to produce food sustainably, while helping restore nature and tackle climate change.
Now is the time to take action!
Welsh Government budget discussions will shortly turn to focusing on how money will be allocated for the SFS in 2026/27. It’s vital that we act now!
